ntndOS Peridot · Alpha 0.1.0
The first public version of ntndOS Peridot is here, as an invite-only alpha for the Mac. Apply for a license through ntnd.ai/apply
What ntndOS is
ntndOS is an agentic harness that runs on your Mac. You set up AI agents, give them work and decide what happens next. Keep your data local, and choose a local model or your own cloud-model key.
What you need
- A Mac with Apple silicon.
- macOS 13.5 or later.
- A license code from the alpha. The alpha is free. You only pay for any cloud LLM provider you may be using, or you can run it for free with local LLMs.
Get access
- Request a place at ntnd.ai/apply.
- Once you're approved, we email you. Sign in at license.ntnd.ai/account with that address for your license code and the download.
- Each license works on one Mac, and the email says when it ends. Moving to another Mac? Use Replace your Mac on the same page. If you ever need help or would like an extra slot, just contact us.
Install and set up
- Install. Open Install ntndOS from the download and choose Install. You can find your download and license key once approved also on license.ntnd.ai/account.
- Activate. Enter your license code. It's checked online and isn't saved on this Mac. ntndOS checks again from time to time and works offline for up to 30 days.
- Set up on one screen. Give your company a name. Keep the suggested ntnd folder (
~/ntnd) or choose another; iCloud Drive and Dropbox work too. Your agents keep their files there, and tools on your Mac can work only inside it. Agree to the alpha Terms, decide on reliability sharing, then choose Confirm and continue.
What's in v0.1.0
Agents. Add AI agents, group them into departments or plan a team. Each agent can Propose first or Act within permissions.
Chat. Talk to your agents, or dictate; speech is transcribed on your Mac. Connect chat to message people in end-to-end encrypted rooms. Keep your chat recovery key (Settings › Chat) safe. A new Mac needs it. To delete a conversation, open its settings; you choose whether its notes and files stay.
Home, Work and approvals. Home shows what needs your decision, what your agents are doing and what came back today. When an agent wants to act outside the chat, it asks first, unless you've already allowed that action. Each approval card shows one exact action, which you approve or deny. Work has four tabs: Approvals, Tasks, Delivered and Requests.
Calendar and Workflows. An event an agent proposes waits for your OK. Workflows are chains of steps on a canvas; run one now and its history stays.
Brain. The Brain holds what your company knows. Files lists it, and Map shows how it connects. Connect a folder on your Mac, a GitHub repository, Google Drive or Notion. The Brain keeps its copy up to date, and you keep editing the original. Mark a document Local only, and AI in the cloud can't read it unless you approve that on a card.
Notes follow their sources. Every note an agent makes remembers which documents it came from. Close a document, make it Local only or move it to the Trash, and what agents made from it is hidden. ntndOS asks once: hide, keep or delete. Before anything is deleted, you see exactly which items, and you type delete to confirm.
Govern. Decide what your agents may do on their own. For each tool, pick Ask every time, Draft first or, where offered, Always. Activity is the verified record of every decision.
Models.
- On your Mac: in the menu bar, choose Settings › Local models… to connect your own Ollama server (http://127.0.0.1:11434 by default). LM Studio works through the OpenAI-compatible endpoint in Settings › Model connections.
- In the cloud, with your own key: Claude, GPT, Gemini, Grok and Hugging Face. Keys are stored on your Mac and used only to call that provider, which bills you directly. Settings › Cloud spending shows this month's cost against your ceiling.
Connections. Settings › Apps covers Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, GitHub, Slack, Obsidian and web search; each says how far it reaches. Settings › Connected tools adds tools for your agents through MCP. Adding one gives nobody access, and the first call to any tool stops for you.
Updates
- Already testing the alpha on build 100? You don't need to download anything: ntndOS offers v0.1.0 as an update, and your company, chats and files stay.
- ntndOS checks for updates every 6 hours and soon after your Mac wakes. To check now, choose Settings › Check for ntndOS updates… in the menu bar. With nothing new, it says "ntndOS is up to date."
- When one is ready, an Update label appears in the sidebar. Choose Install and restart. ntndOS finishes pending work, then restarts.
- From v0.1.0 on: if an agent is still working, nothing is installed, and ntndOS names the agent. Let it finish or stop it, then try again.
- From v0.1.0 on: if an update can't finish, you'll see "You're still on Alpha 0.1.0, and nothing changed." with a support code. Your work is untouched.
Your version
The sidebar shows ntndOS Peridot, Alpha 0.1.0. Settings › About shows Version 0.1.0 (Alpha). For support, Copy details adds the build number.
Uninstall
In the menu bar, choose Settings › Uninstall ntndOS… The app closes and moves to the Trash. Your chats, workspace and settings stay unless you tick "Also delete my ntndOS data"; once ticked, that can't be undone. Ticking it also offers a second box to move your ntnd folder to the Trash (not offered for a folder in iCloud Drive). If ntndOS can reach our license server, uninstalling also frees this Mac's place on your license. If not, use Replace your Mac.
Privacy in this build
- Reliability sharing (optional) sends a small signal with the app version when ntndOS starts, a daily ping to see if it is on, and one when you uninstall. Never your chats, Brain, files or prompts. This helps us understand which versions of the app are still active and how much the app is used.
- License and update checks are separate. ntndOS needs them to work, so they are always on.
Known limits
- Mac with Apple silicon only, for now.
- The Marketplace is a preview on the Coming soon page. It doesn't work yet.
- An agent's /hire places the new agent in a built-in starter department you name. Your own departments, and a starter department that was renamed or already holds documents, need placing by hand.
- Hiding can't pull back what an agent already sent by Slack, Matrix or email.
- A few places can still show what came from a closed document: an agent's own shell commands, workflow results, chat transcripts and a file renamed in Finder.
This is an experimental alpha. Use sample data, keep your own backups and review what you let agents do.
What's next
We plan weekly updates, numbered 0.1.1, 0.1.2 and so on, shaped by what you tell us.
